I worked from 1-7p.. which was fine. busy but fine.
i had been having braxton hicks (or my idea of braxton hicks) for almost 24 hours... every hour.. up to 10 an hour. even while resting in bed. that seemed excessive (which the dr said they were)..to me. never been pregnant Kim.. decided to call the dr. its so embarrassing to not know what your feeling. . . . . . He was so nice and said to try and relax (hard to do at work) and if they dont stop go into Labor and Delivery and get evaluated.. .. so i sat quietly for about an hour... and hoped they would go away. .. then. in my head i started going crazy.
what if they are real contractions.?! and i just dont know it. because i dont know what im feeling. ........... ahh... so. being never been pregnant kim.. i decided to go get checked out.
(i do want to add... that everyone at work i talked to about BHC said.. "o no i never had them that many times.." or "i labored at home (premature) for several hours with out even knowing.." or "i have never even had a BHC"..) so.... i started to get even more worried.
So... embarrassed .. i went to L and D @ Mckay. they were so ridiculously nice it was hard to feel silly after i walked in. the nurses said people come in all the time just to get checked. in fact...... the RN who was taking care of me said she came in 2x in one day with her 1st pregnancy.. and to not worry.
I got hooked up to the NST and Asher was doing great. Hr of 145-170bpm.. NO real contractions. however LOTS of BHC. i also learned that the only significant difference between BHC and REAL contractions... : is that real ones dilate you. BHC dont. ...
he kicked the little monitor things probably 30 times. every time he would kick or flip we would hear it on the monitor. my mom wanted to watch tv but i said "no i like to just listen to his cute little heart beating":)
After about 45 minutes they said i was dehydrated and not eating enough. but that everything looked ok. this made sense.... since i have been afraid to eat since the diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes last week. pre nutritionist and pre endocrinologist appointments...... i felt totally clueless and was scared to death to eat. so i was probably skimping. therefor my body/uterus was reacting.

anyway.. it was an interesting day. cute little Asher is ok. and hopefully i wont go back to L and D in the next ten weeks.... :) unless its for the REAL thing in NO LESS than 9 weeks.

oh my heck i am so glad you and asher are ok!!
that's crazy you're having so many braxton hicks contractions. i had them maybe once a week for like 1 minute each! every time i went in, the dr would ask if i had been having any contractions and every time i felt stupid saying no :) i think you're smart to go get checked just in case. i would have done the same.
you shouldn't feel silly Kim! That was a good move. When do you go see your nutritionist?
